Kenyatta University Green Education Hub at the World Wetlands Day Celebrations
“Protecting wetlands for a common future”
The Green Education Hub took part, and exhibited during the World Wetlands Day celebrations held on 2nd February 2025, at Ondiri Wetlands. This year’s theme, “Protecting Wetlands for a Common Future,” emphasized the urgent need to conserve and sustainably manage wetland ecosystems. The event brought together environmentalists, students, researchers, and community members to raise awareness of the role of wetlands in biodiversity, water purification, and climate resilience. As a featured exhibitor, the Green Education Hub showcased a series of inspiring projects led by students focused on wetland conservation, climate initiatives, and ecosystem recovery. Our team engaged attendees in interactive discussions, highlighting the crucial role of wetlands in our environment and presenting innovative, youth-driven solutions being developed. Through interactive exhibits and insightful discussions, we reaffirmed our commitment to fostering environmental awareness and action, encouraging the community to participate in preserving these invaluable ecosystems for future generations. The event was graced by the Principal Secretary for Environment, Eng. Festus Ngeno, who also visited and interacted with the Green Education Hub exhibition. During the interactive sessions, our representatives employed visual aids to emphasize the beauty, significance, and threats faced by wetlands, sparking insightful discussions about conservation initiatives. The event also included a tree-planting activity and a wetland conservation run, both aimed at enhancing conservation strategies. In his address, the PS stressed the importance of integrating science, innovation, and community engagement in conservation efforts. His remarks highlighted the need for collaboration among government entities, academic institutions, and youth-led initiatives in the ongoing fight against climate change.
