Kenyatta University Green Education Hub: Environmental Career Forum

Date: 25th, April, 2025

“Shaping Careers, Enhancing Sustainability”

On April 25, 2025, the Kenyatta University Green Education Hub, in collaboration with Environmental Institute of Kenya (EIK),, organized an impactful Environmental Career Forum themed “What Next After an Environmental Degree?” which successfully brought together students, graduates, and environmental professionals to explore career pathways in environmental sustainability. The event commenced with a courtesy call to Prof. Maina Mwangi, Executive Dean of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, by key representatives including Prof. Jackline Nyerere (Green Education Hub Lead), Mr. Alex Mugambi (EIK Chairperson), NEMA and other organizations present, highlighting the strong academic-professional partnership driving environmental education forward.

As a dynamic initiative launched in May 2022, the Green Education Hub continues to lead in climate change education through innovative approaches. The Hub engages over 200 student ambassadors in co-creating educational materials and monthly Green Day activities that promote sustainable practices across campus and surrounding communities. The Career Forum built on this foundation by offering participants valuable insights through keynote speeches on professional development and panel discussions about industry trends. Attendees particularly benefited from networking sessions that connected them with established environmental practitioners and potential mentors.

Prof. Jackline Nyerere and Dr. Godwin Opinde underscored the Hub’s vital role in preparing the next generation of sustainability leaders. By bridging academic knowledge with practical career guidance, the forum equipped participants with both the awareness and tools needed to navigate the environmental sector. This successful collaboration with EIK demonstrates the Hub’s ongoing commitment to fostering green careers and environmental stewardship, further solidifying its position as a center of excellence for sustainability education in Kenya. The Green Education Hub looks forward to continuing this momentum through future initiatives that empower youth and professionals in the climate action space.
